Dear Music Students, Parents and Music Instructors,

We are excited to announce the Spring Music Festival on Saturday April 24^th, 2010 at the Metropolis School of Performing Arts! This will be a great opportunity for students to perform for adjudicators from all over the Chicago land area and receive valuable feedback and honor for your hard work and discipline.

Check-in will begin at 8:00am.  Each student must check-in 30 minutes prior to his/her scheduled performance time.  (Ensembles must arrange to check-in at the same time.)  The adjudicated performances will take place between 9:00am – 12:30pm. Students will perform a 5 minute selection of their musical talents in front of a panel of judges.  Students will be divided by discipline and ability level (beginner, intermediate or advanced) and adjudicated accordingly. The performance can include 1 or 2 short pieces, 1 movement of a sonata or concerto, or one 5 minute selection.

The judges will provide written feedback regarding each performance and students will receive special recognition for their achievements.

Online registration opens December 1^st.  Be sure to register early as there are a limited number of spaces available.  Please carefully complete the online registration form.  (Student’s skill level should be determined only by their teacher.)

All participants must register online at: http://metropolisarts.com/sopafestival  

There is an entry fee of $15 per event.  The entry fee must be paid on the day of the festival during Student Check-In beginning at 8:00am.

Though an accompanist is not mandatory, students wishing to perform with one must make their own arrangements.  For a list of accredited accompanists please contact Lesley Swanson, Music School Administrator at 847.577.5982 ext. 240 or lswanson@metropolisarts.com.  

Students’ performance times will be posted at the Metropolis School of Performing Arts as well as on our blog, www.metropolisarts.com/sopanews, on Monday April 5^th.

Please read the following information very carefully as it contains important dates, times and details for the SOPA Showcase on the Metropolis Stage. The SOPA Showcase is a fabulous opportunity for our students to demonstrate some of what they’ve been working on in class.  This is an exciting way for our families and friends to see the development and progression of our young artists.

Below is your Showcase date and time for your classes showcase:

 

Tuesday, January 26^th 5pm

Details to remember:

• Students should be present and ready to go 30 minutes before the start of the Showcase.
• Please ask your instructor on the proper dress for your student as the event gets closer.
• Each student will have 2 free tickets for the Showcase they are participating in. Tickets will be held at the box office window under the student’s name.
• We highly encourage students to see other showcases that they are not participating in to support their fellow students and see what other classes have to offer.  As this is our first session with the new Studio Program any student wishing to see the Studio Showcase at 7pm on January 25^th can go free of charge by visiting the box office after December 12^th and signing up for a complementary ticket.  A complete showcase schedule is listed on the back of this letter.
• Additional Tickets to any showcase may be purchased for $2 each from the box office.  Tickets will go on sale on December 12^th.  All proceeds will go toward our SOPA scholarship fund.  Any other contributions to the scholarship fund are invited and welcomed.
• You do not need to purchase tickets for students participating in the Showcase; they will be sitting with their class for the duration of the program.
• If you are not using your tickets, please inform the Box Office (847-577-2121).  Unused tickets will be released for purchase.
• If extra tickets are unavailable, the Box Office will put your name on a waiting list and contact you if tickets are released.

Watch for more details from your instructor during these last weeks of the Fall Session regarding the day of the showcase.  We ask that you and any friends or family that come to the Showcase stay for the entirety of the class performances. They would love your support, and we want to encourage our students to learn from observing their peers.
