CU! Newsletter: Session 3, Week 2

Hey there, CU! Campers and Camper Parents!

We have successfully completed week #2 of Camp! Can you believe that next week is the show? Crazy! Please remember to buy your tickets downstairs at the Box Office because they are selling faster than you can believe. Note that the show schedule is different than in past sessions: there two shows on Saturday (1PM & 3PM) and none on Friday.

*Last Friday, our costumer asked that the kids provide their base costumes.  Here is the list:

–Base: black t-shirts, black leggings for girls and black pants for boys, black shoes

Please let Kate know if you have any questions/concerns about this!

*On Tuesday, August 16th, the main entrance to Metropolis will be blocked off once again due to it being repainted. Please use the Metropolis Ballroom Entrance off of Vail St.- this time it will be accessible!

*On Friday, we will be having a pizza lunch for the Campers, so please provide $2 for pizza and bring a drink if you wish to take part in the pizza lunch. Make sure the $2 is in an envelope with your child’s name on it, and please bring it to Camp no later thanWednesday. If your child does not wish to have pizza, he/she may bring their own lunch as usual.

*Saturday- Kids will need to arrive no later than noon. You will need to sign them in as usual downstairs, and then they will head up to the dressing rooms. The first show will be over around 2:15, and at that time, the kids will head back upstairs to get ready for the 2nd show. We ask that all pictures be taken after the 2nd show. The next show will end around 4:15, and at that time the kids can go out to the lobby in their costumes so you can take pictures. Then they will need to change to their regular clothes soon after. You may sign them out once all of this is done, and make sure to grab a t-shirt!

*And now a word from our Director, Laura:

Week 2 of Curtains Up! Camp has flown by and our show is coming together quite well.  The students have continued their dance, drama, and music classes, as well as applied that learned technique to several rehearsals for our production of Once Upon a Mattress.  Together the cast has learned all of the song and dance numbers as well as the blocking for the whole show!  The students are “off book,” or memorized, and even did a whole run through of the show on Friday.  The energy and enthusiasm is great, and we can’t wait to incorporate the technical elements next week in order to produce our fantastic performance for a full audience.
Thanks,
Laura

As always, please feel free to email me with any questions. Thanks for all you do and have a great weekend!

Kate :)

LU! Newsletter: Session 3, Week 2

Hello, LU! Campers and Camper Parents!

We have successfully completed week #2 of Camp! Can you believe that next week is the show? Crazy! Please remember to buy your tickets downstairs at the Box Office because they are selling faster than you can believe.

*On Tuesday, August 16th, the main entrance to Metropolis will be blocked off once again due to it being repainted. Please use the Metropolis Ballroom Entrance off of Vail St. once again- this time it will be accessible!

*Last week, I passed out a letter from our costumer, Miss Anna, but here it is if you never received one. It discusses all of the basic costume pieces that the kids need to provide themselves (underclothes, shoes, etc.). Here it is again:

Welcome to the world of costumes for Lights Up! Camp 2011! I am thrilled to be bringing the world of I Believe in Make Believe to life for your children and hope that it will be a magical experience for everyone involved!

On the day of the performance, I ask that you have your child come in a solid fitted Black base. The following is what would be appropriate.

GIRLS:                                                 BOYS:

-Black Leggings                                -Black T-shirt

-Black Tank                                        -Dark Color Athletic Shorts

*Tanks or shirts with light printing on them is OK, I just ask you flip them inside out and snip the tag off.*

Also, I ask that you supply a solid Black dance shoe. A Ballet or Jazz shoe is recommended, however a rubber soled MaryJane/flat is fine too. Your child will be dancing and moving around in them, so their safety and comfort is important!

*You can find inexpensive dance shoes at Payless, Walmart, Target, and if you call dance stores/studios they do resale.*

If you have any questions, or for any reason you can not supply any of the items for the performance please contact me by Monday 15 August 2011, so arrangements can be made.

I appreciate your “costume assistance” in helping make the production extra special for your child!

Thanks!

*Saturday’s call-time will be 9:30AM. Please sign in in the lobby as usual, and then we will take the kids upstairs to the dressing rooms. After the show ends, you may take pictures of your child in his/her costume, but I ask that you move quickly because we another show moving into the Theater as soon as Lights Up! is out. Make sure to sign out afterwards and grab a t-shirt!

*And now a word from Ms. Danielle:

Campers were busy this week building the pieces of the show.  They finished learning almost all of their songs, dances and scenes.  We also began putting all of the scenes, songs and dances together.  This coming week we will rehearse the show with the technical aspects.  They will begin using props, adjusting to lights and sound, and adding all of their costumes.   I am excited to see them combine all of the elements of performance and production for their final show.

As always, please email me any questions you may have. Thanks and have a great rest of your weekend!

LU! Newsletter: Session 3, Week 1

Hello, LU! Campers and LU! Camper Parents!

We had a great 1st week at Camp, so we wanted to fill you in on some of the fun. But before we do that, here are just a few reminders:

*We have noticed that we have had many late arrivers this past week, so please try to get to Camp by 9:00. We have little time as it is to get everything we need done, so it would be wonderful to have full attendance at the start of Camp!

*Please continue to be good about the “no peanut/tree nut butter allowed at Camp” rule. We want everyone to feel safe at Camp, and this is one way to help those with allergies.

*Tickets are on-sale for the August 20th performance of I Believe in Make Believe. Each Camper is allowed 2 free tickets, and then there is a $5 charge per ticket after that. You may call the Box Office at (847) 577-2121 or buy them after Sign-Out on any day of the week. They’re selling quickly!

*Everyone should have received their I Believe in Make Believe script books last week, so please remember to bring them to Camp EVERY day. We want you to take them home so you learn your parts, but you must bring them back so we can rehearse!

*Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week are Spirit Days at Camp! This means that each day will be themed with something fun. We will be starting off Spirit Days with PAJAMA DAY on August 10th. Come to Camp in your favorite pj’s, and we’ll even have a fashion show to show them off!

And now, a word from our Director, Ms. Danielle:

Hello!  My name is Danielle Coody and I am delighted to be directing I Believe In Make Believe.  This week, campers learned a song and dance from the show for their auditions.  Their auditions were wonderful!  Students began building their group ensembles with theatre games and activities.  In rehearsal, they learned music, choreography and staging for the Opening number, Someone Sneaks In, We’re Poor, Soldiers Brave, and Why Won’t She Laugh.  I am excited to see them grow in their performance abilities over the next two weeks.

If you have not already, please remember to bring your child’s Costume Form tomorrow to Sign-In! Have a great rest of your weekend, and we’ll see you all bright and early tomorrow morning! Enjoy the sunshine!

~Kate :)

We want you to take them home so you learn your parts, but you must bring them back so we can rehearse! PLEASE NOTE: if you received a pink book, you MUST give that back to us on the last day of Camp. We are renting those scripts for this session, so it is extremely important that none of them get damaged or lost. We have already spoken with the 18 kids who are in possession of one.

*Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week are Spirit Days at Camp! This means that each day will be themed with something fun. We will be starting off Spirit Days with PAJAMA DAY on Wednesday, August 10th. Come to Camp in your favorite pj’s!

And now, a word from our Director, Ms. Laura:

Once Upon a Mattress is off and running!  This week we had 2 days of wonderful auditions during which everyone shared their dancing, acting, and singing talents. After revealing our fabulous cast everyone went straight to work developing their characters, learning show-stopping song and dance numbers, and becoming more familiar with the scenes and story of the show.  At the end of this first week the cast has learned 3 dances, been introduced to all the music, and received almost all of the blocking for the show.  On Friday, we asked the kids to make sure that they have a black tank-top or leotard. They will be wearing it underneath their costumes for the show. We also passed out CDs of the show music so give those a good listen over the weekend, too. Thanks, and we are off to a great start!

Have a great rest of your weekend, and we’ll see you all bright and early Monday morning! Enjoy the sunshine!
